Hasta pronto :) Ms. G ¡Hola! My name is Ann Marie Giannace. I am a graduate of Georgia College and State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and a Master's degree in Secondary Education. I am delighted to begin my fourth year teaching at Crabapple Middle School this year! I encourage you to check my website for updates on what your student will be learning in my Spanish 1a and 1b class as well as upcoming assignments and assessments. If you have any immediate questions you can reach me at [email protected] *Disclaimer - If you happen to email me after regular school hours, I may not respond until the following morning, but I will definitely get back to you! I believe communication between the school/teacher and the home is essential in creating a positive learning environment! HELP SESSIONS: All World Language help sessions are on Wednesday mornings from 8:00 to 8:30. They should be used for GRAMMAR help - not necessarily vocabulary. They are not mandatory, but please have your child arrive on time because the allotted time is limited. It would also be helpful if you let me know ahead of time that your student is planning to attend. I will be there to help every Wednesday morning! If for whatever reason I cannot make the help session, students are welcome to attend help sessions of any other Spanish teacher. International Night 2020

Spanish High School Credit: The 6th grade classes are starting as a high school level course! Ideally, level 1 will be taken over two years - 6th grade is Spanish 1a; 7th grade is Spanish 1b. Spanish 2 will be offered in 8th grade for those who pass level 1. Credit for 6th grade Spanish 1a: The grade that the students receive in 6th grade (level 1a) is not carried onto the high school transcript. 6th grade serves as the pre requisite to get into 7th grade, which is level 1B. Credit for 7th grade Spanish 1b: In order to receive High School credit for level 1 Spanish, students must pass both semesters of Spanish 1b. If a student does not pass, they will have the option to repeat level 1 as a freshman in high school or choose a different foreign language to begin with level 1 in high school. Disclaimer: Grades received with Spanish 1b and Spanish 2 courses will contribute to students' High School GPA, but will NOT contribute to the HOPE Scholarship GPA calculation. More info can be found in the syllabus posted below. *You will be notified if your student is at risk of failing the course Daily homework should include reviewing vocabulary and grammar points of the units. Please remind your student to study and review regularly. I encourage at least 10 minutes of vocabulary review each night. You can even review the vocab with them to witness their progress, and maybe even learn a little Spanish yourself! :) vhlcentral.com will be our main resource for homework, the virtual textbook, and lots of practice!
