Classroom Management
I have been studying a lot about strategies for classroom management through the MAT program. First of all, I would like to say that I plan on implementing a classroom that is democratically based in that I will give the students the opportunity to have say in the classroom with regards to various things.
I believe in being the type of teacher that Lisa Delpit calls a "warm demander". This means that I will be both kind and welcoming to my students, but be rigorous and set high expectations for their performance. My students will know that I am a teacher who they can connect with and not feel intimidated by, but respect because they know that I have high expectations for each and every student. Lastly, I have learned a lot about Ross Greene's strategy of managing troublesome students called "Collaborative and Proactive Solutions" (CPS). CPS gives a three step process to connect with students who are disruptive or need extra attention, and then collaborate with them to come up with reasonable solutions. I have personally successfully executed CPS with two high school students. I followed the three steps that the CPS template gives, and cooperatively came to possible solutions to the problem. |
